Jigsaw Puzzle Kit Components
Template
-
What it is: a one-piece depiction of the finished puzzle that can be referenced while doing the puzzle.
-
Each straight-edged puzzle template has a small rectangular protrusion to denote the top of the puzzle.

Base/Frame
-
What it is: a base with a raised frame that depicts the outline of the puzzle. The puzzle pieces can then be placed inside the frame, on top of the base.
-
Each straight-edged puzzle base/frame has a small rectangular protrusion to denote the top of the puzzle, just like the template.
-
The corners of the frame are removed to ease removal of the puzzle pieces when the puzzle is completed.
-
Bases and puzzle pieces have magnets to secure the pieces and to provide sensory feedback when the piece is placed correctly on top of the base. The challenge jigsaw puzzles do not have magnets.

Jigsaw Pieces
-
There are three distinct interlocking shapes: hooks, circles, and triangles.
-
Each puzzle piece has an indentation on its underside to indicate which side is right side up. These indentations are circular, except for the challenge jigsaw pieces which are triangular.
-
Bases and puzzle pieces have magnets to secure the pieces and to provide sensory feedback when the piece is placed correctly on top of the base.

The "Just Right" Challenge
Puzzle kits are designed for different levels of difficulty.
To start: use the magnetic base/frame - the magnets provide tactile feedback when pieces are placed correctly.
Then: do not use the base. This adds challenge, requiring more tactile and spatial skills.
Good To Know
Magnets
